Mission Statement
Note: This is a living, breathing, ever-changing and imperfect statement. It evolves as I evolve.
Unconventional Folks exists to create a world where gentle, sensitive souls—those often misunderstood—can find a home and a sense of belonging. This includes creatives, artists, the so-called “black sheep”, weirdos, nerds, misfits, queer siblings, neurodivergent individuals, and those who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latine, first-generation, multiracial, and bicultural, folks drawn to counter- and subcultures that saved their lives.
We envision a space where every aspect of who you are is celebrated and held sacred. A place where we are guided by the wisdom of the unseen, allowing you to reclaim your genius and magic. Together, we contribute to a world marked by compassion, grace, curiosity, individuality, interdependence, interconnectedness, creativity, and community.
In many systems and communities, your wisdom and existence have been misunderstood and demonized. Here, we aim to reflect your true essence accurately. Our humble intention is to honor the complexity of your evolution, the sacredness of your contributions, and the joy found in play and humor. This space encourages critical thinking, questioning, being wrong, saying I don’t know, being okay with not knowing, self-acceptance and contributing to something greater than ourselves, all while fostering healing to minimize harm to our planet.
